Something Devastating This Way Comes

30 April 2010 | Disaster, Environmental

oil spillOur hearts are breaking again as our Gulf Coast region takes a new hit.  Almost five years ago we saw Katrina and Rita and then hurricane Gustav and now, a massive influx of slow-moving oil has met our shores quicker than anyone has expected.  This is not a spill, it is a constant stream of crude coming up from an uncapped well whose safety valves have failed.

Parish President Ken Davis has already declared us in a state of emergency while other government officials are in high response mode.

The oil spill presents a very serious threat to the fragile ecosystems that support Louisiana’s oyster, shrimp, and fishing industries — a major source of jobs and a huge part of the economy here in southeast Louisiana. Regardless of how many barrels of oil are leaking every hour, the oil sheen seems endless on the water. – Rep. Charlie Melancon

Keep us and the other coastal regions in your prayers as we brace for the affects of this devastating accident.
